While still a nascent offering in the U.S., a recent survey on prepaid electricity revealed that 38% of consumers are interested. The addressable market—those either “extremely interested,” “very interested” or “interested”—total 38% of the 1,000 persons surveyed nationwide.

Many consumers are ready for a new “conversation” with their energy supplier. Consumers have responded to our yearly survey efforts noting that convenience, and increased control over energy use and cost, are the main drivers for selecting prepaid electricity service. Prepaid service creates an opportunity for providers to conduct a daily conversation with energy consumers. Consumers can react and adjust their usage if they choose. Prepaid electricity has real potential to be an effective energy and budget management platform.
